| Ray Morris Medal voting underway for Maltese Rugby League Player of the Year |
|
Previous medal winners include current and previous national team captains Chris Parker and Daniel Grima, Gozo RC’s Clifford Debattista and Super League’s Jarrod Sammut. A seven-person committee will award points on a three-two-one basis with the player attaining the most points awarded the honour for the past season’s on and off field efforts. Ray Morris is and was University Rugby League’s only ever Australian rugby league international and passed away in Malta on the way to England for the Kangaroo Tour of 1933/34. On the field, this year’s medal incorporates fixtures dating back to last October’s Malta XIII that took on Leeds Akkies in dismal conditions at Melita FC, the 2012 Dove Men+Care Championship and the two national team fixtures against Denmark in this summer's Dove Men+Care International Series. Nominations will take place between the committee before an official vote is taken. The committee is made up of representatives from each of the 2012 MRL Dove Men+Care Championship clubs, a representative from the MRL and the MRL’s Match Officials Department, and a representative from each of Malta’s Australian and United Kingdom based arms. Last year’s Ray Morris Medal, the seventh year of its announcing, was awarded to Gozo RC's Clifford Debattista.
