Exiles ready for weekend exposure

The Maltese Exiles will go into tomorrow's Unofficial Exiles World Cup Festival in Leeds with a host of new additions after a number of players were forced out through injury this week.

Malta internationals Joey Davies (knee), Chris Parker (pectoral) and Daniel Marzella (back) are among the casualties, with another five players also in doubt, but national team captain Parker still thinks the Exiles have what it takes.

"We're looking forward to getting the boys together again as a squad. We've got some new players coming along (Luke Grima, Carl Grima & Alex Rowe) and it will be good to see what they bring to the squad" said Parker.

Parker conceded the Maltese were in a group of death but added should they win their two group matches, they would be favourites to win the festival.

"We're in a tough group with GB Teachers and Fiji UK and I think the winners of the group will be favourites to win the comp. Its going good, we've added Alex Rowe to the squad but have also been smashed by injuries"

"Hopefully the exposure from the competition will help find some more Maltese heritage talent in the UK"

The Exiles will take the field in a new Xamax kit and supporters are invited to get to Weetwood Fields and cheer on the Exiles.

The matches this weekend are part of preparations for national team players ahead of the Dove Men+Care International Series decider against Denmark in Copenhagen on September 29.
