Maltese Heritage Rugby League confirms coaching staff for Under 16’s Origin Harmony Cup

The MRL has appointed a strong assembly of Coaching Personnel to oversee the development of the next generation of eligible Maltese Rugby League players.

To guide and inspire the future crop of talent, the MRL has appointed former Malta Knights assistant coach Tony Farr (pictured left).

Farr has named his staff which includes a number of former players that have played in, and represented Malta, as well as played at a high level within leagues across Australia.

Maltese Heritage Under 16's Coaching Staff
Head Coach:
Tony Farr (Sydney Roosters, Malta Knights)
Assistants: Bradley Clews (Lalor Park Kookas, Malta Knights) and Ben Sammut (Cronulla Sharks, Birkirkara Warriors, Malta Knights)
Managers: David Axisa (Penrith Waratahs, Oaks Tigers, Mosta Titans) and David Dux (Blacktown City, Seven Hills Kangaroos, Malta Knights)
Trainers: Matthew Dux (South Sydney Rabbitohs, Seven Hills Kangaroos, Malta Knights), Dean Conner, Paul Mamo (Windsor Wolves) and Peter Curmi (Cronulla Sharks, Birkirkara Warriors, Malta Knights)
Medical: Joe Clews (Windsor Wolves, Penrith Panthers, Malta Knights) and George Zahra (Windsor Wolves)

Maltese Heritage Rugby League spokesperson David Axisa said the formation of a junior team in Australia is in line with the pathways being set in place for overseas based players to play representative rugby league for Malta by their late teens to early twenties.

“The Malta national team is thesedays working from Malta outwards, and so players from the UK and Australia have to work hard to gain selection over a player from Malta’s national championship” said Axisa.

“Malta’s team last June against Denmark had only two players that were Australian born and raised, but the MRL is setting the stones in place for players to follow the pathway regardless of whether they play their rugby league in Sydney or Siġġiewi”

MRL would like to express thanks to the Seven Hills Kangaroos Committee for providing their facilities for this development program.

A 40-man train-on squad will be named ahead of the September 3 trials at International Peace Park, Seven Hills.
