Malta international Matthew Frendo has sent out a call to all eligible Maltese rugby league players to get in touch with the MRL Trust after the organisation’s plans to enter a team in the U16’s Harmony Cup in October.
The Sydney based international, who debuted against Germany last year, said “I want the younger generation of Australian-Maltese players to feel the honour I did when I represented Malta”
“There’s nothing I would love more than to get something up and running in Sydney for this age group where we have a lot of players of Maltese descendants and to play in front of a home Australian-Maltese crowd”
The MRL Trust’s David Axisa has already begun receiving interest from players from across Sydney, down to Ulladulla in the south and up to Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour in the north - and says the team would follow up the work carried out towards junior players following a training day at Penrith’s Centrebet Stadium in April.
All players must be able to prove eligibility and applications close July 27.
