| Ron Gauci appointed as new Storm CEO |

Gauci replaces Frank Stanton, who has been acting CEO of the Storm since April 22. Melbourne Storm chairman, Stephen Rue, said Gauci had the skills required to rebuild the club following the fallout from the salary-cap breaches uncovered by the NRL. "Ron has a strong track record of successfully managing organisations through a period of change," Rue said. "He is also a passionate Victorian sports fan. "His excellent leadership, management and strategic skills are just what the Storm needs to ensure we work effectively through the issues that currently confront us and build a strong and successful future." Gauci said he was thrilled to be appointed CEO of Melbourne Storm. "I don’t underestimate the enormity of the challenges we face but I do know we have fantastic foundations to build upon – a magnificent club culture and extraordinarily loyal and dedicated supporters," Gauci said. "Our players, supporters and employees have shown remarkable resilience and great pride since April, and I will work hard to build on this foundation and win their ongoing support." Gauci said his first priority was to work with management and the board to ensure the Storm fielded a team for 2011 that was under the salary cap. "This will involve discussions with many people including Craig Bellamy, team management, the players, the NRL and the board," Gauci said. "The process is not as straightforward as many people think, but we are determined to find a solution as quickly as possible." Rue thanked Frank Stanton for serving as acting CEO of the club since April 22. "Frank is one of the most respected people in rugby league and his reputation has only been enhanced by his contribution over the past three months," Rue said. "On behalf of the Board and the whole Storm family, I would like to thank Frank for his outstanding efforts and express our gratitude that he will continue as a director on the Melbourne Storm board." |
