Malta defeated Norway 30 to 20 at Victor Tedesco Stadium, Hamrun on Friday 4th June 2010 to win the European Bowl.  Turning Hamrun into Maltese Rugby League's own cauldron, 353 spectators filled the Victor Tedesco Stadium at Hamrun.  Media, including Rugby League World, follow Malta's final training session on the morning of their clash against Norway.  Journalists at the press conference before the match.  Players do the 'Wembley Walk', Norway coach Warren Heilig (followed by Norway captain Fredrik Skovly) shakes hands with Malta five-eighth Chris Morton.  The Parliamentary Minister for Youth & Sport, Mr Clyde Puli is introduced to national team players by Malta captain Daniel Grima.  Jovan Vujosevic (pictured left) the RLEF Match Commissioner, and match officials (referee Steve Davis, centre) stand for one minute's silence in respect of the victims of the recent Cumbria tragedy where Harlequins captain Rob Purdham's brother Garry was among the innocent victims last week.  Malta's rugby faithful follow the Malta Knights into their entry into European competition at Hamrun.  Norway gave Malta a scare, the Vikingene led 10-0.  Norway prop Isaac Schmidt asserting his dominance up front.  Malta interchange back-rower Graham Attard crashes through the Norway defence.  Shaun Bartlett (number one) is the first to congratulate brother Paul as he crosses for the first of his two tries.  The first ever Gozitan born and bred rugby league player to represent Malta, Clifford Debattista.  Halfback Malcolm Attard took a 14 point haul, one try and five conversions.  From the first to the final minute, supporters gave their all.  Malta's Clayton Cassar is sent from the field and the Knights will finish the game with 11 men.  Full time, Malta 30, Norway 20.  The Maltese thank supporters after the game.  Malta captain Daniel Grima lifts the 2010 European Bowl trophy.  Malta coach Anthony Micallef kicks off proceedings with champagne all round at the post match party.  Malta players celebrate with the 2010 European Bowl.  The Malta Knights and Norway Vikingene celebrated the post match party at Nordic Bar, Paceville.  Malta internationals Shaun Bartlett (Cardiff Demons) and Chris Parker (Gateshead Thunder) say thank you to Josef Mizzi of Lion King Stationary. Lion King Stationary was the outlet that topped pre-match ticket sales across Malta. |

Hi All, it's been a massive week for MRL,now that we have achieved what we have worked for. I would like to thank all those that have been involved in some way or another, but a special thanks must go to all the players for the extra effort they all put in and to Anthony(Chocco), who's always on the go. Just landed back in England, just wanted to say well done to all the boys that were involved over the last few months getting ready for the game and to the boys who played in the game, well done a great effort. Looking forward to the games in October will be counting down the days till i get back to Malta.

I enjoyed the trip to Malta and having the chance to play a more experienced team. 3 days later my body is still feeling it :-) Good luck with growing the sport down there. Hopefully some of those numerous balls we lost over the side of the stadium are picked up by some young locals who 1 day may become a League star ;-)
