Ron Gauci appointed as new Storm CEO |

Melbourne Storm have announced the appointment of Ron Gauci (pictutred left) as chief executive officer of the club, effective immediately.
Gauci replaces Frank Stanton, who has been acting CEO of the Storm since April 22. Melbourne Storm chairman, Stephen Rue, said Gauci had the skills required to rebuild the club following the fallout from the salary-cap breaches uncovered by the NRL. "Ron has a strong track record of successfully managing organisations through a period of change," Rue said. |

Malta makes Rugby League World |
|
Maltese Rugby League has made a mark with a six-page appearance in Rugby League World magazine.
The August edition sees Paul English discover the Maltese Islands for a piece titled Island in the Sun where English recently held interviews with skipper Daniel Grima and Parramatta Eels junior Charlie Bonanno. Closer to home, English also travelled to Wrexham in Wales’ north to chat with the Crusaders’ Jarrod Sammut in ‘My First Hero’. The colourful piece has attracted a round of applause from as far as Australia, New Zealand and the UK. |

Comets' mini field named after Bill Borg |
|
Bill Borg, a Maltese Australian that has devoted a lifetime to rugby league in the western suburbs of Sydney, has had a field named in his honour.
The mini field, at the grounds of his home club - St Clair Comets, was named at a ceremony earlier today. Borg has been the Secretary of the St Clair Comets Rugby League Club since 1990 and has been instrumental in the club’s growth. He is also a life member of the Penrith District Junior Rugby League Club, and has received a Centenary of Rugby League Medal, Penrith City Council Sports Achievement Award and ‘ING Volunteer of the Year’ award. |

Malta’s silverware grabbing victory against Norway will be broadcast exclusively on Melita from this week.
The 2010 RLEF European Bowl fixture from Hamrun’s Victor Tedesco Stadium showcases Malta and Norway’s entry into European competition before the European Shield was battled out this month between the Czech Republic, Germany, Serbia, Latvia, Russia and the Ukraine. |

Wood appointed European Development Director |

The RFL has appointed Niel Wood as European Development Director.
Wood - who has enjoyed a long and successful career developing the sport in many different sectors - has worked as the RFL's National Business Development Manager for the last eight years. Former student RL boss Wood, 52, will work closely with the RFL's Chairman and Rugby League European Federation Chairman Richard Lewis on the next phase of developments across Europe and the Atlantic, including qualification for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. |

Love issues warning to NRL |

Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) chairman Colin Love has issued a warning about fiddling with the game's rules as a number of radical proposals gain currency in the NRL.
The Australasian competition already differs from the rest of the rugby league world in its use of two referees and the abolition of cornerposts as a part of the boundaries of the field of play. |
